CAPT (Ret) Robert Dews was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Capitol Heights, Maryland. A 31-year Navy Veteran, he served both as an Aviation Maintenance Officer and as a Human Resource Officer during active duty service.
He attended Southern University A&M and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering in 1988. He also earned an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University and is graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Joint Forces Staff College.
As an Aviation Maintenance Officer, he served in many levels of aviation management: operational, intermediate, quality assurance, and RDT&E (Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation). This included tours and deployments with the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; Strike Fighter Squadron One Three Six (VFA-136); USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN- 69); USS George Washington (CVN-73); and Naval Strike Aircraft Test Squadron (VX-23). While assigned to VX-23, he was selected as the Naval Air Station Patuxent River “Officer of the Year”.
In the human capital arena, he has extensive experience in talent acquisition, training, and manpower management. He served as a lead analyst for the Office of the Deputy Assistant, Secretary of the Navy (Installations and Environment) during the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure and as the Director of Personal and Family Readiness (OPNAV N135F)/Branch Head for Total Sailor Fitness, 21st Century Sailor Office in Millington, Tennessee.
Dews served in many key leadership positions in support of Navy recruiting, including: Officer in Charge of the Navy Recruiting Orientation Training Center in Pensacola, Florida, Commander of the Oklahoma City Military Entrance Processing Station, and Commanding Officer of Navy Recruiting District Dallas. As the Director of Operations (N3) for the Navy Recruiting Command in Millington, Tennessee, he oversaw the management and strategy for the successful recruitment of over 62,000 personnel.
In his last assignment, he served in the newly established Director of Safety position at the United States Naval Academy and was tasked with the development and implementation of a safety program for over 6500 military students, active duty and civilian personnel.
He has served on the executive boards of the Oklahoma Federal Executive Board and the American Red Cross for Mid-South Tennessee. He is a 2014 graduate of the Leadership Memphis Executive program. Committed to community service, he is an active member of the Rotary Club of Annapolis and enjoys serving as a mentor in three local programs. He is also the lead Navy member for the Military Veterans Affairs Council (MVAC) for a nationwide program.
CAPT (Ret) Robert Dews earned various personal, unit, service and campaign awards during his military career. He is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and currently resides in Annapolis, Maryland.
